Planning the best safari vacation can be a challenge, especially for first-timers. As much excitement as planning a trip brings, it can also be overwhelming with all the decision-making. But don’t worry, because we’re here to simplify the process for you. In this blog, we’ll share our top 5 tips for planning an unforgettable safari experience at Londolozi.
1. Plan and Book your Safari Vacation in Advance:
While spontaneous trips can be exciting, I highly recommend booking your safari vacation in advance for the best possible experience. This ensures you secure the exact camp or room of your choice, reserve bookings for signature experiences, and help avoid unnecessary stress during your travels. Given Londolozi’s remote location, planning ahead allows you to coordinate your flights and transfers, ensuring a smooth journey from start to finish.
2. Explore our Camp Options:
Discover the various accommodation options available at Londolozi, including family-friendly camps, and exclusive suites. Consider the pricing, location, and atmosphere of each to find the perfect fit for your safari experience.
3. Remember to Take it Slow to Ensure The Best Safari Vacation:
We’ve witnessed many guests try to cram too much into their itinerary, spending excessive time in transit and missing out on the true essence of Africa. With so much to experience on a safari vacation- morning and afternoon game drives, delicious meals, exciting activities, and moments of leisure —it’s challenging to find the right balance. Therefore, taking it slowly is key to experiencing the best safari vacation. Give yourself plenty of days and time to immerse yourself in every aspect, allowing you the opportunity to fully embrace the tranquil pace of safari life without rushing through everything.
4. Choose the type of Safari experience
Decide on the type of safari experience you desire, whether it’s a family vacation, photographic safari, honeymoon, or anniversary celebration. Londolozi offers tailored experiences under each of these categories.
5. Consider the Season:
Choosing the best time to visit really depends on your preferences and what you hope to experience during your stay. Here’s a brief overview of what each season offers:
September to April (Spring/Summer): These months bring warmer weather and are our summer and spring seasons. Days can get quite hot, but it’s a perfect time to enjoy our pools and the abundance of wildlife. This period coincides with our rainy season, resulting in lush vegetation and excellent game-viewing opportunities.
May to August (Autumn/Winter): These are our cooler months, offering a refreshing break from the summer heat. The wildlife is still plentiful during this time, and cooler temperatures make outdoor activities comfortable. It’s a great time for game drives and exploring the bush without the intensity of the summer sun. Additionally, winter nights at Londolozi are made cozy with roaring fires and a glass of red wine.
As you can see, crafting the best safari vacation requires thoughtful planning. With these tips in mind, you’re set for an unforgettable African adventure at Londolozi. If you have any useful safari planning tips – let us know in the comments section below…

Thank you for the information. Our bucket list visit to Londolozi comes in October 2024.
That’s fantastic news, Scott! We look forward to welcoming you to Londolozi in October.
Great tips Megan for anyone interested in planning a safari. I would only add to build in extra time prior to beginning their time in the bush, arriving at least 2-3 days in advance. From my own experience, traveling at least 26-33 hours to reach Johannesburg, I find that relaxing for a few days prior to beginning my safari, leaves me rested and ready to begin my adventures.
Thank you, Denise! Relaxing before your safari is a great way to ensure you’re fully prepared for all the amazing adventures ahead.
Megan, This is really great and we already forwarded it to friends of ours that are looking at Londolozi!
Thank you, Michael and Terri! We can’t wait to welcome your friends.
Thanks for the good advice Megan. You wrote that one should book well in advance because: “This ensures you secure the exact camp or room of your choice”. I totally agree with this. The point is, though I always book well in advance, I was told by my travel agent Justine Ryan that at Founders’ Camp the “requested chalet 8 cannot be guaranteed, but they will do their utmost to secure this option for you.” So I do hope I will be able to stay there …
