The Intention of this gift
There is a restlessness inside of me. A part of me that is not satisfied by living in the same way, day in and day out. There is a part of me that aches for new experiences and has a deep longing to meet ancient forests and stand with my feet in the newness of the moment as I place my feet in running streams. This restlessness is only calmed by recognizing that my soul wants adventures, and longs for the journey of discovery.
Adventures can take many forms. While the widely known ones often involve physically moving around and travelling to different places, the adventure that my soul called recently was an inward one. I began to realise that there were many places within myself that were undiscovered, and territories and landscapes of my soul that I had yet to experience. When the call to adventure comes, there is very little you can do to block it out if you are living from the essential part of yourself, what we call your Wild Self. And my Wild Self has led me to deepen my own personal practices with the intention of living a more full and colourful life, full of joy, purpose and meaning.
I’ll never forget what Martha Beck, one of our long-standing teachers in this space, said during my Life Coach training many years ago. “You have to live it to give it”. This was in relation to coaching other people but it goes for any sort of advice or knowledge that you share with the world. Unless you can, from a place of deep integrity inside yourself, say that you are truly practicing the advice you are giving out, or devoting your time to studying the wisdom you are sharing with others, are you qualified to do so? And so, this latest call to adventure has been about sharing the things that I have been living on my own personal journey to knowing my Wild Self better, and sharing the deep knowledge that we, as a Londolozi family, have collected over the many years, in the hopes that it may spark your own curiosity to take a new adventure for yourself.
During the first year of COVID we felt a deep sense of disconnection with our Global Londolozi family as travel restrictions meant that we couldn’t welcome our guests back for 8 months. In this time, the only place we could go was inward, and so we created two mindfulness challenges in the hopes that they would help those who weren’t able to physically be here with us to feel connected to the wilderness and to the nature inside of themselves. While we find ourselves in a very different place in 2024, this call to create something for people to experience no matter where they find themselves in the world came again, and Bronwyn Varty-Laburn and I set out to put together another challenge. But the word challenge didn’t feel right for what we wanted to share, and so we created an inward adventure instead.
To live would be an awfully big adventure. – J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
As our Wild Self year has played out across multiple online platforms, the same questions have come back from you – what is the Wild Self? Where do I find it and how do I experience more of its layers? As you all go deeper into this topic, we wanted to meet you where you are.
We have created this adventure with everyone in mind using simple tools that we know can have a profound impact on your mental and physical wellbeing. Whether you are a seasoned meditator or someone who has to work on staying present every day, there will be something in this adventure for you. This adventure is about staying mindful and accessing stillness as a way to stay present, and seek inner refuge, and is a chance to take a breath, to pause and to reflect. It is designed to be easy and step-by-step and should be approached with a sense of ease and playful open-mindedness.
We invite you to sign up at the bottom of this page.
