My default way of looking at the world is through a creative lens, so the beauty of wildlife and nature that surrounds me at Londolozi never fails to inspire and ignite my artistic side. The vibrant colours, captivating textures, and breathtaking landscapes create a visual wonderland.
In this blog, I want to take you on a visual journey, that showcases the colourful and creative essence of Londolozi’s wilderness—a living art gallery.
Colours of Nature:
While you may associate the African wilderness with neutral, muted tones, there are specks of bright colours all around. When I set out on a game drive, I take great joy in noticing the array of colours that the wilderness has to offer. The brightly coloured feathers of a lilac-breasted roller, the striking black and white pattern on a zebra’s coat, or the golden mane of a lion each contribute to a diverse palette of nature’s colours.
Patterns and Textures of the Wild:
When out on a safari, we often witness incredible sights, but we may not always take the time to truly ‘see’ them. I encourage you to pause and truly observe, uncovering the extraordinary beauty in the every day—textures, colours, and details that often go unnoticed.
The ever-changing skies:
The skies at Londolozi are like a constantly changing work of art.
At sunrise, the skies turn soft shades of pink and orange, lighting up the wilderness below.
Throughout the day, the skies shift in colour and mood, from calm blue to dramatic dark blue with passing clouds. This adds depth and beauty to the landscape.
Sunsets at Londolozi are incredibly stunning, with vibrant colours like orange, red, and purple filling the sky as the sun goes down. It’s my favourite moment of the day.
At night, the pristine African sky above Londolozi comes alive with a dazzling display of stars.
As you can see, the wilderness holds numerous colourful and creative surprises, just waiting to be discovered. During your next visit to Londolozi, take the time to notice and appreciate all of nature’s artistic wonders. It will inspire you to pause, observe, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us here at Londolozi. A “living art gallery” – yes, that sums up Londolozi perfectly. Thank you Megan for putting together such a range of exquisite images – it must have been very hard to choose from the thousands and thousands taken over the years.

I’m thrilled you enjoyed the selection of photos, Gay. Nature’s magical colours, textures, and compositions truly make it a captivating subject.
Megan it certainly is a tapestry, and array of beautiful colours all showcasing their splendid attire. Just looking at the sky for example from moring till evening, what different colours it brings to us. Also the different colour of greens that present themselves all over Londolozi. The animals and birds have stunning colours to show off and be much appreciated by us. You have achieved great ambitions in the Creative Hub at Londolozi. Your images are absolutely stunning.
Thank you for your kind words, Valmai!
Megan, your story this morning brought back such special memories from my times spent in Londolozi. Your accompanying images added a special touch, truly highlighting, the varying colors of the day, the the textures seen on the trunks of trees, especially the Deadwood’s as well as the striations seen in the tusks and horns of elephants and rhinos, after taking in their beautifully wrinkled skin.
I’ve found that sometimes however, the photos I’ve taken, whilst well exposed and focused perfectly, somehow lose just a touch of what I saw in that actual moment. Consequently, I’ve come to the conclusion that the pictures I hold the most dear, those that occupy a special section in my memory bank, are those that never hit my camera sensor. When I’m missing the peacefulness and friendships I’ve made at Londolozi, I can conjure up the scent of the early morning dew in the grasses and feel the warmth of the sun as it rises up over the Sand River in the middle of Finfoot Crossing. Each day exploring this wonderful reserve does provide a Living Art Gallery that one can enjoy anyplace, anytime.
Thank you for sharing such heartfelt memories of Londolozi, Denise. I’m touched that the story and images brought back special moments for you.
Such a gorgeous post and treat for the eyes. Thank you for slowing us down to look at how the lighting and the tremendous color display are such a pleasure to the senses. I was mesmerized by most of them but stunned by the perfect dark blue outline of the lilac-breasted roller. 🙏🏿
Thank you, Johanna! I’m delighted that you enjoyed the post, and I share your admiration for the image of the lilac-breasted roller.
