A spectacular sighting of the Mhangeni pride at a waterhole (that somehow got overlooked in the archives), plenty of elephants – as is becoming the norm, although we introduce some really interesting angles this week – , and a couple of rare bird species to round out our 44th Virtual Safari.
Enjoy this Week in Video…
Fantastic videos this week. Loved the elephants and lions.
James. You had me with the stunning aerial view of the elephant and waterway! Just Wow! Then on to the playful Lion Pride cooperating with a visit to the vehicle for a close-up photo op. Some birding; some rhino; the end of a day sunset in Londolozi. Thanks for a lovely Sunday morning!
James, I adored the ellies down by the river – you could fill the whole video with this and I’d be happy. And as for the footage of the Mhangeni pride, that was wonderful! – especially the close-ups of the cubs. Very, very special.
What a fantastic sighting of the king othawa and his pride of beautiful lionesses. Cubs beyond adorable! However, I only see 3, what happened to the 4th cub???
Oh and love eagles!!!!!💕❤👑🦁🥰😍🦁💪🦁🦁
One of the many things I love about the Sunday blogs is that we get a closer look at the many varieties of birds. Sometimes we are distracted by sightings of the bigger animals which we also love! Thank you Victoria
Fantastic viewing
Spectacular sightings of the lions and the elephants and also the martial eagles.
Unique video with a variety of birds a luxurious vegetation and most of all iconic elephant bulls and lions. The trust lionesses and cubs have in you is touching
Lovely to see the elephant bulls wallowing in the mud. The lion cub was so cute playing with the male lions tale. Beautiful pictures of the martial eagle, so huge.
This was so much fun to view this morning, from the elephants taking a mud bath to the Mhagene cubs frolicking around their pride. Kudos to the Othawa male for his patience whilst one of them kept attacking his tail. Among the birds, the martial eagle was quite impressive- one of my favorites to see.
What made this long and slow video so very special was hearing the birdsong, the lapping of the lion at the waterhole, the grumbles of the male lion as the cubs launched themselves at his legs, the squelch of the elephant rolling in the mud, the sound of buzzing insects, flapping wings and the general hum of the bush. It was almost meditative with just the sounds of the bush all around. Thank you for that extra special Sunday post – just what is needed in these anxiety-filled days in the midst of a very damp and dismal winter here in the UK. Much appreciated.
Terrific video this week James! The aerial footage of the elephants was stunning, the lion encounter was amazing, and the eagles are as interesting as they are beautiful! You mentioned that you don’t post videos of rhinos often. Could you explain? Thanks!
Hi Paul,
There has been a significant increase in rhino poaching over the last few years. not so much on Londolozi but more in the Kruger Park, which the Sabi Sand Borders.
Although we have a top-notch anti-poaching unit and our rhinos are very safe here, we tend to just avoid advertising the fact that we have rhinos here. We don’t hide it, but it’s something we don’t broadcast too much, partly to show solidarity with those reserves that are affected more, and partly to avoid a social media backlash.
Hope that answers the question.
Best regards
Thank you James, makes total sense. One of the things I most appreciate about all of you and Londolozi is your never failing concern for and stewardship of the animals and the land!
Ha! Lionesses are female…. 🙂
Thanks James
I really enjoyed the week in video! Thank you for sharing!
