The Vegetable Revolution

July 19, 2010

Vegetables aren’t the first thing that come to mind when you think of an African Safari. Wild animals, ancient trees and bushveld thunderstorms are perhaps more resonant with this much used term and yet the more I look at it, the more I believe that vegetables should be one of the instant connotations of an African Safari. The Future of South Africa

June 24, 2010

The balls got bigger…this was always this biggest indication that winter was surely on its way.  It wasn’t because of the cold, but rather the heat which determined the size and strength.  As the cold months approached us, small and hard cricket balls turned into softer, inflated soccer balls as football became the major sport [...]

May 20, 2010

It was about this time last year that we said our final goodbye to the 3:4 Female as she slipped into that immortal realm of great Londolozi Leopards. This autumn it is with immense sadness that we report the loss of the Sunset-Bend Female as she joins that exclusive club. To view the full post and video click on the heading above.

You Strike a Women, You Strike a Rock

May 17, 2010

The barbed wire fence surrounded a lone, gated building where the women were toiling over their wares. To the left, long rolls of circular tubes were being spun relentlessly whilst on the right, these completed rolls were sawn off into digestible sized units. In the middle of a dingy concrete building in rural South Africa, nobody would suspect that 8 unemployed and formerly abused women are standing up to fend for themselves using toilet paper as their weaponry. Full Moons and Space Stations

May 10, 2010

Boston
I’m guessing that most children dream of being an astronaut at one time or another in their lives. I too dreamt of the magic of weightlessness and spent many hours picturing myself hitting booming golf shots in the sea of tranquility or driving moon buggies recklessly whilst peppering the moon with aluminum foil flags. Python Eats Bushbuck

May 6, 2010

Two of our guests were strolling along the walkway between Granite and Varty camp when they saw a female bushbuck staring intently at the slated bridge. The bushbuck was distressed and decidedly nervous about something. On closer inspection, the scaled patterns from the python twitched, breaking its camouflage and revealing the massive bulbous mass ingested within. Much to the distress of the mother, the python had caught and eaten an entire baby bushbuck. To view the full post and picture click on the heading above.

Bennet the Carpenter

May 4, 2010

Bennet Mantonsi is both an outstanding tracker and carpenter. I recently discovered this latter fact when I chanced upon him working on his latest creation: new signboards for the Londolozi camps. Bennet had setup his work bench outside his house and was reeling through an array of tools, devices and sandpaper to put the finishing touches on the wooden posts. Reel Gardening

April 29, 2010

Part of our big drive towards sustainability throughout Londolozi has been the development of a nursery and vegetable gardens in the Londolozi village. These hotspots are the foundations of a greater goal to decrease our carbon footprint whilst increasing the sustainability of organic foods and local champions’ income. The vegetables grown by the individuals at Londolozi are bought by the kitchen to ensure that fresh, organic produce is always being served to our guests.
