Awesome blog James. I still remember seeing Vomba walking around in Varty camp. Beautiful leopard. It is wonderful to have her legacy live on in her daughters and grand daughter.

James. You write so evocatively. Thank you for a beautifully written piece. And I love David’s photo.

It’s probably not a good thing to have favorite leopards, but I enthusiastically followed all 4 of the Sunset Bend daughters that became territorial. Vomba was the oldest, maybe the largest (if not Xidulu/Kikilezi) and a magnificent, powerful female! It was always a pleasure to see photos or video of her As James said, Vomba’s legacy can be seen in the number of daughters/granddaughters that are currently territorial on Londolozi (4!). Even when memories of her fade, her offspring will live long after her.

James a wonderful tribute to a very special leopard. She has always been a favourite of mine and has been on the cover of two of my blurb books. I first saw her in January 2009 with a cub and then in February 2013 with a cub, but sadly this year in March she was no longer in sight .. may we continue to see her offspring.
