I cautioned myself on writing a blog on the weather, as discussions surrounding the weather are commonly seen as “saver topics”- ones used as conversation starters with strangers or as space fillers when things get quieter in one’s daily correspondence. While I will not be giving an account of the weather from an meteorologist’s perspective, I will use the change of weather, or seasons, to give insight into what we currently have on offer at the Londolozi Living Boutique to accommodate the weather conditions typically experienced during this time of year. 

When Should I Visit Londolozi followed by What Should I Pack are probably two of the most widely asked questions before booking your safari holiday. Luckily we have two extensive blogs written on these topics to help you. However, the answers are based largely on personal perspective and experience, and as such there is no right or wrong answer. 

I always pack for any and all weather occasions. However, I am aware that most guests traveling to Londolozi have travel restrictions that limit packing for a range of weather conditions.

With the above in mind, I have taken particular care to stock the boutique with items for purchase that could assist those in a wardrobe pickle, facing weather conditions they were unaware would present themselves during their African experience. 

While style and fashion are my preferred conversational topics, as opposed to the weather that is, I hold true to the fact that practicality must prevail- especially where game drives are of concern. 

As the Southern Hemisphere dips out of our winter months and approaches the warmer months of November, December, January and February – I wanted to give mention to the outwear garments that have been popular over the past winter months but which can also be very useful in our summer months! 

GILO GILET 

Affectionately known as the “puffer jacket” given its panelled cushion like appearance. This jacket keeps one’s core warm while the sleeveless cut provides the option to allow airflow and bare arms. The versatility of layering underneath it also makes it a buildable wardrobe staple for all seasons.

This is a newer addition to the Living Boutique, and it was the alternative to down feathers as an inner lining, that is more sustainable and environmentally conscious, which drew us to the garment. This jacket is also lightweight and packable, making it a companion for any outdoor adventures. 

3-1 JACKET 

This jacket is affectionately known as the Londolozi Ranger Jacket, given that all rangers at Londolozi wear it on game drives- all year round. 

The jacket is formerly known as the 3 in 1, due to the outer and inner shell combination, that can either be worn all together, or separately.

Life becomes much easier when packing a multifunctional piece of clothing suitable.

Strangely enough, this jacket gets equal attention in the winter and summer months. 

Given that summer is our wet season, we often experience hot, humid and rainy conditions, the outer shell of this jacket thus protecting rangers and guests alike while out on game drives.

SHAGGY FLEECE 

This is a winter must have! 

The name of this jacket comes from the inner lining material. It is warm, cosy and stands against the crisp winter mornings and evenings. This knit, with its sherpa fleece lining, has come to the rescue many times over. 

This fleece is made in South Africa, by people who have lived experience in travel and safari going.

BOMBER JACKET 

This is for those less likely to choose practicality over fashion. 

The Rush Active Wear Bomber Jackets, are for those who embody the wilderness through their expression of style. The Rush team intended for these jackets to be worn to any an all occasions, offering a “sleek and chic” touch to any outfit. 

We first loved these for their bold animal prints, and have continued to relish in the combination between style, fashion and art!

Hot. Cold. Windy. Dry. Raining. Humid. Cloudy. 

Truthfully, there are too many weather conditions to consider when packing. As such, the Living Boutique hopes to assist with making sure you are kept warm, dry and comfortable during your stay at Londolozi and your experience in the African wilderness.
