Following on from last week, where we enjoyed the sighting of the wild dogs on the hunt. We spend an afternoon with the same pack of wild dogs, except this time the pregnant alpha female and another female wild dog were missing. They had probably been left at a potential future den-site, in the event that the alpha female goes into labour, then at least she is close enough to a suitable den to ensure that the pups were safe.
We decide to try and stay with the pack in the hopes that they lead us back to the alpha female and in turn find the den.
As a result, we get to follow the pack across some incredible terrain and get the most unbelievable backlit shots of a number of them. We decide to position the vehicle on the downward slope, lower than the wild dogs looking west as the sun was setting. Allowing for the most breathtaking scenery as they walk across the Londolozi airstrip, above our eye level with gorgeous golden light shining through, silhouetting them against a dramatic sky.
On the search for their next meal, they roam the open crests, but the impalas are few and far between, so as it gets dark we leave them to continue their search in the hopes of finding them again the next morning.
To finish off our Virtual Safari, we come across two male giraffes engaging in the ultimate battle for dominance. The two stand parallel to each other, and attempt to inflict damage to the other with the use of their large head and robust ossicones. Swinging their heads across in what appears to be a dance the sounds of the impacts are brutal.
Enjoy this Virtual Safari…

Sean, Thanks for giving us extra time with the Giraffes and wild dogs! It was really interesting to see the interactions!
I keep my fingers crossed…..
Sean the sighting of the wild dogs and the sun going down is absolutely stunning, beautiful lighting there and I really do hope they den on Londolozi again. That will be so awesome then we can see the puppies growing and being feed. The two giraffe’s are huge and I wonder who won the dominance in the end. Fantastic video thanks Sean.
Great videos.
It was fascinating to watch the two giraffe bulls during their dance for dominance, although one was certainly bigger than his mate. I hadn’t noticed during their sparring, the more dominant male pushing the other one by using his hind section. I was always so focused on the head swings. This video also really highlights the fact they don’t look at one another – the head bashing seems calculated by positioning.
The dogs are always exciting to follow and it seems it’s only a matter of days until pups are born. I can hardly wait to see the little ones again. Thank you for a terrific safari ride today Sean.
Sean, thanks for the wonderful video of the giraffes and the wild dogs. The giraffe encounter was very interesting with one smaller than the other.
Terrific Virtual safari! I could sit and watch the dogs all day! And the giraffes necking is always fun to observe unless they really harm one another. We saw one knock the other to the ground one day. We were afraid he had killed it, but fortunately he had not! Thanks for entertaining us!
A nice quiet time with the giraffes and wild dogs. Thanks Sean, enjoyed it.
What a great way to end your day Sean with the Wild dogs! So pleased the alpha female has finally stopped tagging behind them with that huge belly..lets hope that she picks a den on Londolozi 🙏🏻🤞what a treat that will be !💕
