For as long as we’ve known Boyd Varty (he was born at Londolozi, so quite a long time), he has dreamt of going alone into the wilderness, but being a life coach, storyteller and author he never seemed to have the time. Boyd runs many retreats here at Londolozi but with the travel slow-down, all of those have been postponed, creating the perfect opportunity for an adventure.
Londolozi has an old treehouse on the banks of the Sand River and Boyd has decided to spend 40 days and 40 nights at this spot. Each day he shares a short recording of his day with the world at large, as a way to reflect and share his journey with people who may be isolated all over the globe. He wanted to do something in service to our shared humanity in some small way, letting people, wherever they may be, stay connected to the voice of nature.
Described in Boyd’s own words:
“My hope is to explore the archetype of the mystic in nature.
How my state of consciousness changes outside of the structures of modern life.
Explore the dynamics of solitude and what it means to be wild”
Episode 4: A Somewhat Anxious Ape
Episode 5: Watch Our For The Small Things
Episode 7: Why Is Simplicity So Complicated?
Episode 8: Myth Making Tree Trickster
There are 40 000 accounts of mystics going into the wild… but why?
Many of our global Londolozi Family have already started following him, many of you have written to us describing how this podcast is a great way to start the morning accompanied by your brew of choice. Testimonials:
“Having been fortunate to travel to Londolozi twice, Boyd’s amazing daily podcasts bring me right back to the wonder and beauty of the reserve. Boyd’s reports are a daily source of raw emotion and authenticity – a wonderful gift during these unprecedented times. Well done, and Godspeed”
“This is a wonderful podcast to listen to during these challenging and isolating times. I listen daily and it feels like I go on a small adventure. I have felt inspired to slow down and learn from Boyd’s experience. I highly recommend this podcast!”
“These daily podcasts have enhanced my days. The one on simplicity especially resonated for me in many ways – too often I find myself running or chasing “something” and missing the beautiful, simple moments. I also resonate with the child within. Wonderful insights and imagery. ”
“Boyd’s adventures in and of themselves are worthy of a five star review, but what I love most about this podcast is looking at life through his lens. It offers a unique perspective that seems even broader than a 30 000 foot view and beautifully reveals that hidden web woven throughout all of creation. This podcast is a true gift.”
“Boyd is one of the best storytellers in the world. He weaves tales in a soothing voices and brings me back to Londolozi’s magic and serenity. This podcast is a gift at this distressing time in the world. Thank you Boyd.”
“While the rest of the world is hunkering down. Boyd Varty is showing us how a brave soul is transforming this new world by going into nature to find the depth of humanity’s soul. This journey is one we all wish we could go on but through Boyd we have been given the opportunity to tag along with his adventure, and hopefully gain insight into our own ever-changing worlds as well. Thank you for being brave enough to leave civilisation behind.. and to take us with you”
“Boyd takes the art of spinning a yarn to a new level – weaving a tapestry of experience, insight and the magical interplay of humanity, wildlife and the land that supports us all. What is the most appealing to me is that he goes way beyond poetry and pontification. Boyd is quick to find the humour in his experience. Somehow, that makes it more real and accessible, to me at least. Thanks, Boyd! Be well. Enjoy”
“Thank you for sharing this amazing adventure. As I listen I smile because it is as if you are helping me to understand the tracks I am encountering in these somewhat wild and uncharted times. Thank you for helping place my journey into context – and every day I look forward to seeing what your next dispatch brings”
“This is the most beautiful, calming, relatable in some ways and grounding thing I’ve come across. Love how quickly Boyd goes from mystery and depth to human-ness. So grateful! Can’t wait for more episodes. Reminds me of the night my life was transformed watching rhinos at night in Namibia! It’s official, Londolozi is now on my bucket list!”
Jemma, I have listed to all of them🤗.
I have listened to all them
Thank you for your support Joan – I hope you are enjoying them.
Terri and I are loving the experience of “being” with Boyd on this extraordinary adventure. We know the spot where he is, and remember our “sundowner” there a few years ago. Great memories for sure! Stay safe Boyd!
We so glad to hear how much you are both enjoying his podcasts – it’s also fantastic that you can picture were he is from being there.
I love knowing we have stood in that tree house and watched elephants below. A special moment at Londolozi.
Be well. Stay safe. Sending aloha.

Need to listen to all these!!
These podcasts were part of my own morning ritual over coffee. A true blessing during the stay at home orders we are under. There was so much wisdom, insights, humor and wildlife magic that they are definitely worth a repeat listen. Best to Boyd.
