Another toasty midday mission this week, and this one took us all the way down to the furthest reaches of the property.
A leopard and her cub we had never laid eyes on before. And what she had done before we arrived genuinely stopped us in our tracks. A fully grown Nyala bull, killed, fed on, and hoisted into a tree. A Nyala bull can push close to 120 kilograms. Just let that sink in for a second: that is double her weight.
After that, a rhino bull came down for a drink. Then a report came through of three leopards together on the other side of the reserve. Three leopards together is not something you drive past, so we dropped everything and raced across.
The afternoon had other ideas. A mechanical hiccup somewhere deep in the southwestern corner of the property, an SOS back to camp, and the borehole boys riding to the rescue. I am fairly sure I will not be living that one down any time soon.
Press play. See you on the other side.
