If you watched last week’s episode, you’ll know I mentioned something ridiculously exciting that I didn’t want to share with you just yet. Well, I guess that time has come, so here we are.
But before we get there, because good things are worth waiting for and a Gijima Male roaring at dusk in a spotlight deserves at least a few minutes of your time, we take a small detour first.
Roaring, scent marking, contact calling for his brother who was somewhere out in the thicket but never showed himself. The camera and the spotlight had a disagreement about the focus. The lion did not care.
Then, Pat found the pack of four wild dogs denning.
I heard the radio call and the rest is history.
There is also a new hyena den: one mother, two cubs, about four weeks old. Because apparently Londolozi decided that one new den wasn’t enough this week.
Nkoveni. Ximungwe. Xinzele. Eight Kambula cubs growing fast. Wild dog pups. Hyena cubs.
This property is absolutely bursting with new life right now.

Wow, such great news from Londolozi, Sean. So many cubs and pups were born recently. I wish all the mothers and other adults who care for them good luck. Hopefully they can bring up some of these tiny creatures. Would be so nice.
How exciting! Just a few questions for you, Sean – as the wild dog cubs are so young wouldn’t they be suckling now rather than having regurgitated food? Also 1 of the adults appeared to have a tracking collar, does that mean it’s from Kruger?
On a different tack, dare I ask about Nhlanguleni? – haven’t seen her mentioned in the blogs for ages (unless I’ve missed one).
Omg, watching this week’s virtual safari, I can see and hear how thrilled you are with all the new life that’s been discovered recently. It is so exciting to see wild dog pups once again in Londolozi – you, the rangers and guests are going to enjoy watching them grow over the next few months. If there are only four pups in this litter, it may be much easier for the adults to manage them, hopefully insuring they will all grow to adulthood.
The Gijimas’ roars still give me goosebumps even via your video, a sound I never tire of hearing. Let’s hope that both Nkoveni and Xinzele can keep their cubs safe and that eventually Ximungwe’s cub becomes comfortable enough around vehicles to show itself – its must be around 8 months old by now. We saw the African Painted Dog pups last week with Chris and Tsepo. Our seeing them played out exactly as you’ve shown. Momma called them. And out they came from the den to both nurse and eat the regurgitated morning kill from the four adults absolutely wonderful to see.
Hi Sean, oh this is so exciting to see all the new life on Londolozi. I know you are so pleased to have the wild dogs Denning on Londolozi again. Hyena mother with her two tiny pups are so cute. Loved the roaring of the mighty Gijima males. Eight lion cubs and the Three leopard mothers with their cubs are absolutely fantastic. So many new babies and I am sure you Guides and Trackers are going to have good sightings to show the guests.
Hahah, gotta look out for rhino sneaking up on you.
