on When Lions Change Sides: The Uncertain Future of the Msuthlu Pride

Join the conversationJoin the conversation

Hello Megan, can you tell the parents of the Nwaswitshaka males? They are impressive. A very compelling dynamic between them and the Msuthlu pride and the Gjima males. Lions are always a spectacle, golden as the sunlight. But the last picture by Nick it’s the one I particularly like…
I think about the Tsalala lioness. Her misfortune in having the Plain Camps Males as dominant males in the area…. thank you for this update about lions dynamic always a thrill!

Thank you Megan , it sounds as if your guests will be talking about that for many days

What a story – it’s hard to keep all the players straight! How many Msuthlu males are there? Are there at least two that may break away and form their own coalition? Or only a single male? Lion dynamics are so complicated!

Hi Megan, certainly there will changes to the Lion dynamics on Londolozi. With so many males in different prides can be a problem as the males want to dominate. So glad the young male could get away from the two huge Gijima males, those two lionessess took no nonsense from the Gijima males.

Wow, such a dramatic and aggressive encounter between the adult males and the young male.
Obviously the females tried to help him, didn’t they?
If the Nwaswitshaka Males mate with the Msuthlu Females, this will mean that the young males have to leave or get killed, won’t it?
The relationships of the lions of the Sabi Sand area are constantly changing and a real challenge. Hopefully there won’t be too much fighting and or killing. But, of course, that’s what lions are like.

It appears that another Lion drama will soon reveal itself in the next few months – during my Londolozi timeline , first the Birmingham’s,followed by Ndhzengas, Kambulas, Gijimas, and now the N’waswitshakas. The quest for power is innate in these males. I’ll be looking forward to watching how these coalitions and prides move forward. Terrific update Megan!!
