Great article, Nic.
One always believes that it is only warm or hot in Africa, though it really isn’t at least not in the southern parts in winter. I have always wondered how the animals – not only lions, but all mammals – survive these cold months, especially the nights and early mornings.
But I would never have guessed that male lions need such a lot of calories per day. Amazing!

Thanks Christa

Hi Nic, perfect description! The Gjima males may have a short time of dominance ahead, because of the many male coalitions around, but they do are impressive and adapt perfectly to your blog edition! Superb picture!

Thank you Francesca

Hi Nic, thank you for this vital info on the lion and their energy usage and the way that they control their temperature during the day and during energy burst times. Remarkable and we thought they are just lazy and sleeping off their full bellies. Always something to learn from nature, thank you Nic.

Thanks Valmai

Fantastic information given in your blogpost Nic in addition to your photos of the mighty Gijimas. It was interesting to learn that they control their heat levels much the same as humans, but more efficiently, generating more self-heat. Looking forward to Part 2.

Thanks Denise

Such an interesting topic. I think a lot of overworking humans could benefit from framing the idea of rest as laziness to “survival math.” Nature is always showing us how to create balance.

Completely agree Chelsea!
