The open grasslands have been alive with activity of late, and this week’s Virtual Safari is no exception. We begin with a remarkable morning sighting of a male cheetah on the move—intent and focused as he roams the clearings.
The grass in this terrain is tall and thick, making visibility a real challenge for a predator like a cheetah. To counter that, they’ll often hop up onto fallen trees or termite mounds to get a better look at the surroundings. And that’s exactly what we were treated to. First, a fallen tree—ideal not just for a good vantage point, but a place to mark territory and let others know that he has been around here. Then a nearby mound, where he climbed up and settled, offering us the most extraordinary views as we slowly circled around, capturing him from every angle.
Later, we share a peaceful moment with a herd of elephants feeding quietly through the long grass, before crossing paths with a very familiar face—one that hasn’t graced a Virtual Safari for quite some time. Any guesses?
And to round things off, we’re treated to the beauty of the full moon rising over the reserve—a perfect way to close out another week of safari magic.
Enjoy this Virtual Safari…

Thanks Sean, wonderful sightings of the male cheetah and ellies, and good to see Ntomi again. You mentioned the Thamba male – I saw him in October ’18 when he was newly independent. I’ve written down he was born in May ’16, so if I’ve got that right he’s just about to turn 9?
Sean, this is the perfect Sunday virtual safari – a cheetah, family of elephants and a favorite leopard, Ntomi. The cheetah, lithe yet fit, reminds me of a male I viewed in the region a couple of years ago, not skittish but carefully searching area for any aggressors or prey. Elephants are always a joy to watch as they quietly move through the grasses, now and then a youngster play-charging another sibling or a vehicle – always makes me laugh. However the best moments were seeing Ntomi once again. We tried to find him a few weeks ago but he was doing what leopards do, staying elusive. It would be fantastic if he moved back onto the property, although he would be contending with his father for territory. I’m sure there will be future reports on his whereabouts.
Dear Sean, that must be a very good feeling to share the time with the cheetah. Enjoyed that virtual safari
I miss Londolozi for so many reasons. Magnificent animals. Knowledgeable staff. A feeling of family everywhere. Be well and thank you for this video.
Thanks, Sean, for another amazing video full of the magic of Londolozi.
Elephants, cheetah, the Ntomi leopard, what else could one wish for to see…
It’s so beautiful out there in the bush.
Hi Sean, oh I am so excited to see my favorite male leopard, the Ntomi male. He is so beautiful and absolutely the highlight of this Virtual Safari for me. I have often wondered what happened to him. Loved the elephants and the calves in a peaceful surrounding, doing what they do best. The huge bull elephant is extraordinary and he was on his mission. Cheetah male is something extraordinary as we don’t always get to see them. He is so confident and marking his territory there on the fallen tree. Hope he stays for a while so we can see him again in the future.
Soooo happy you got to spent time with the Ntomi male! And happy he’s doing well! I do hope he comes back east to you! The beautiful cheetah and all the ellies plus gorgeous moon rise made for a most excellent virtual safari this week! Thank you!
Fabulous Sean! What a privilege to spend such one-on-one time with the male Cheetah – very special. I could spend all day watching the majestic ele and the peaceful family life of the herd – background “choruses”, doves and insects just add to the experience – excellent VS – felt as though I was really there!
Wonderful
