One of the things that I really love about working at Londolozi is being surrounded by so many people who have the same zeal for nature. Everyone that works here just loves to be out in the bush and enjoys it at every level. Camp managers stop to photograph and appreciate the small things on the lodge pathways, the team is packed with keen birders and baby nyala are celebrated by staff as part of the family when they’re born in the confines of camp. So really it would have been enough just to have got a few staff members together on an impromptu outing into the bush one morning and seen nothing but what we found completely blew us away.
There really is nothing quite like watching cubs where their universally infectious joy and innocence completely wrap you in the moment with them. You’re left feeling unmistakably lighter, happier and this is what I’d like to share with you today in this video. I won’t say much of the sighting as the video will say it all but do make sure you watch to the end because the best part is when the cubs attempt to play with one of their father’s, a Matimba male lion, and it doesn’t quite go to plan.
Awesome video! Cubs are adorable.
OMG, that was the highlight of my week. I wish I was there to see them in person.
Great video and having just returned from our sixth visit to Londolozi, we were thrilled to see several sighting of very young lion cubs . . . and of course, lots more. Counting the days until we return in January 2017.
It is amazing to see the male lions interacting with the cubs. On my first visit to Africa had the privilege of seeing a big male being so gentle with a cub. One of my favourite videos.
Oh dear grumpy dad was having none of their biting! I guess when they get a bit bigger, he will be more accommodating! Thank you Amy for this adorable video, a pleasure to watch those little imps 🙂
Fantastic video Amy! The cubs are so cute, and incredible to see the big Matimba next to the little cubs! Thanks for sharing such a great moment with us.
Funny!!! I loved it and wish I could have been there! I will be back !
Beautiful sighting. Glad Matimba tolerates to a certain extent. What is the gender of the little ones?
Hi Diane,
They’re both females…
Fantastic video of these cubs with Mum and Dad, Thank You for sharing, Wish I was there!! One question, what had happened to the Dads Paw, could see some small injury.
