I found it harder than usual to choose the top ten photographs of the month – there seems to be an endless selection of brilliant images taken by the ranging team and guests alike.
The action in the wild has been consistent and always enthralling. Hearing and reading about these stories, provides us with our daily wild ‘fix.’
Playful moments between animals were seen and captured, the incredible sighting of the hippo, wildebeest cow and crocodile was once again shared (a different angle to what we had previously featured, with a closer zoom).
More recently Ranger Amy Attenborough watched in amazement at the herd dynamics of elephants as they welcomed the birth of a newborn calf. And while not included in the pictures below, Sean Cresswell takes us through his harrowing and insightful account of a wild dog and lion attack and what it was like to witness one of the crueler sides of nature…
Enjoy the best of this action-packed month as we say goodbye to March and look forward to what lies ahead in April!

To our surprise a hippo approached the scene. We had initially hoped that the big animal was coming to chase the crocodile away and we had a glimmer of hope at this stage for the poor wildebeest. Neil Goodes

The causeway is a hot spot at the moment. Animals are being drawn in by drying water sources. Simon Smit

A newborn elephant seeks the comfort and safety of its mothers presence. It will often sprint beneath its mother as she moves so that her giant legs protect it from the dangerous new world it finds itself in. Amy Attenborough

Leopards are notorious for not liking to get their feet wet. Here the Camp Pan male heads for dry sand as ranger Lawrence Weiz snaps a few shots. James Tyrrell

This time around, we are going to make the judging a little harder for you… Instead of choosing your top five from the above, we’d like you to narrow your selection to your top three! Let us know your best three images – and why these images stood out for you.
Stunning images this month.
Thank you Marinda, it was a great month and it was so lovely to have you visit us.
My favorites are Tailless, the hippo, and baby elephant.
1. newborn elephant
2. hippo etal.
3. Piva male
all were wonderful pictures
Hi Kate,
My top three:
1. The Nanga female, beautiful pose, full belly, and great black-and-white photo;
2. The Piva male, another excellent pose, high-quality photography;
3. Amy’s photo of the newborn elephant, not only a wonderful photo, but she captured the essence of life and renewal in South Africa.
Great choices Dave! I must say that photo of Piva is quite remarkable. He is so handsome and big 🙂
Tough to pick three! I think the Tsalala lioness at dusk, the baby elephant and the closeup of the wildebeest, hippo and croc – although it’s hard to leave Camp Pan out!
Thank you Mary, the photo of the croc, wildebeest and hippo is a great image and such an unusual sighting!
Very wonderful pictures indeed – especially those in black and white.
I agree, the black and white are very striking. The cropped elephant would make a great canvas print.
The Nanga female is touches something in me…every picture of her. So..
1. The Nanga female (strong, elegant, breathtaking beauty!)
2. Baby elephant
3. Piva Male (handsome!)
4. Elephant at the causeway
Thanks Amy
