On a sand bank, no ordinary sand bank, but one in the middle of the Sand River at Londolozi in the Sabi Sands.
There could not, would not, and cannot have been a more perfect place to celebrate our friend’s belated birthday, and get around to naming our god-son or to simply pass the time with a picnic and some bubbles. You truly would be very fortunate to find a spot that could even come close to being as special as this!
I’m not sure who enjoyed it the most, our god-son splashing about in the warm shallow waters of the Sand River, or the ‘grownups’ lapping up the atmosphere in absolute awe of nature at her best, and whilst alongside a herd of elephants calmly grazing away on the luscious greens lining the river bank.
We certainly owe a huge special thank you to the to the Londolozi family for arranging such a precious weekend. The memories are up there with the best.
With special thanks to all at Londolozi, for making this trip one of the best in the South African bush.
Here are just a few of my favourite wildlife shots from what was indeed a very special and memorable weekend.

This young leopard cub stares intently at the noises coming from a nearby tree.
Love is all around at Londolozi…
We had a number of different hyena sightings on the trip.
Famous for its leopards, we were fortunate to have a few different sightings in a short time at Londolozi.
A mother and child made for yet another memorable sighting.
The elephants enjoy quenching their thirst before journeying on.
A pod of hippos gaze up at us, they are always very curious.
