One of the most recognized and delicious traditional South African meals is that of the ‘potjiekos’. Brielfy translated, it means ‘small pot of food’ and at Londolozi Pioneer Camp, our longest standing chef, Elmon Sithole, creates one of the most delicious potjie’s around. As a member of the Relais and Chateaux family we take great pride in practicing the five ideals which make up the Relais lifestyle.
The creation and enjoyment of the potjie in particular helps us to showcase the tastes of our South African land and give our guests an appreciation of what makes the flavors, roots and culture of our destination so unique. The end result is that many of our guests often request this particular recipe and technique…and so without further ado, here is a step by step video on how to create a traditional South African potjie – Londolozi style!
Yummy Elmon and Anna – look forward to tasting your Potjie when we visit Londolozi – nothing tastes better than a Potjie which is authentically cooked over the coals! Something delicious to share and over which to mull over the sightings of a game drive.
Thanks Jenny! I look forward to you having one when you visit Londolozi too!
Yum–hope you are still making them in March 2013.
