My dear David and Shan,
I am writing, at the first real opportunity, to thank you very much indeed for an outstanding experience yet again. Each time I am with you at Londolozi it is a humbling experience. In my world we think somehow that we are great, being in an urban setting, sometimes having our name in lights, basking in some kind of fake glory. And then we go to Londolozi or Mnemba and absorb some of nature’s wisdom where everything is designed by an unseen hand billions of years ago; a design that, you have often told me, cannot be emulated by any degree of observation/science/theory/hypothesis, etc. it just is.
Humans, in their arrogance think that they can order and reorder what has already been designed by a seer who sees everything connected to everything. Scientists cannot do that yet. Nature adjusts to the molestations of it by human beings.
Nature is not cruel or kind, it just is; it flows along altering and adjusting to the stimuli that it gets, in a system dynamic that is impossible to fathom. My understanding of the nature of the world, which can change the way we look at things, gets enhanced every time Imeet and visit with you. Alas! It all too often fades away when we leave — and that indicates a clear hazard for you!!
This is what I cogitate on every time I talk with you and see the endless cycle of the food chain. To try to understand it better I badgered you with so many inane questions. Your terrace, where we ate (over ate!) breakfasts, lunches and dinners cannot be matched anywhere in the world; nor can your warmth and hospitality. We are both much enriched and I hope that continues for many, many more years. I would like to thank you once again and to tell you that you are always welcome in our lives and in our homes.
With lots of love
Siddharth/Pippa
