While I spent most of my professional career as a clinical social worker, the most fulfilling for me personally were the years I was a zookeeper. I don't particularly like zoos. However, the animals are here, I cannot change that, but I can support that zoos offer the very best care physically, emotionally, and mentally. I now serve on the board of directors of Center for Great Apes, a sanctuary that gives life time care for chimpanzees and orangutans. We have rescued over 50 from the exotic pet trade, from entertainment, and from medical research. I have been extremely fortunate to have visited East and South Africa several times.
