Josephine grew up on a farm just south of Johannesburg, which exposed her to open spaces and encouraged her to develop a love for nature at a very young age. Later she attended the Diocesan College for Girls in the Eastern Cape where she developed a love for working with children in the many outreach projects she was involved in there. Finding her way further south down the coast to Cape Town, she studied a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Biochemistry at the University of Cape Town. Being a great lover of the outdoors, nature and working with children, she could not let the opportunity of working in the Londolozi Cubs Den slip by.
