Fine write up of the occasion and some very photogenic lions. Am curious if anyone has notice any light eyes in the cubs? Thank you very much for sharing this sighting with us. Totally charming.

Thanks James once again for a riveting write-up on this excitement! I’m sure your guests will never forget this moment, something that only the bushveld & African Wildlife offers! Nothing that exciting ever happens in LA unless its humans in conflict!
These big lions in this 2nd last picture are starting to look a lot worse for wear, but the first one of the two big guys with the cub sitting “waiting” is really beautiful.
Thanks again & have a wonderful 2014

Hi Rowena,

The cub’s eyes aren’t unusually bright, I think they just appear that way in contrast to their wet fur that looks much darker than normal.
Having said that, one of the females does have pretty striking eyes herself (have a look at the photo of her running towards the camera) so maybe the cubs have inherited the bright-eye gene from her!

Or maybe they inherited the gene from the hip-scar male? Have a look at HIS eyes in the final photo… mesmerizing!

Awesome pics and write up! has anyone been able to get a count on how many cubs are Male/Female yet? thanks

Hi Mike,

It’s a 4:5 split – 4 males and 5 females. I think. It might be the other way around, but pretty sure that’s it.
