As wildlife photographers we are often obsessed with capturing a pure wildlife image without any human elements or influence. This is ideal for creating and building a wildlife portfolio but sometimes the human element helps to tell a different story.
Here are a couple of images taken during a recent trip to the Sabi Sands, during which we stayed at Londolozi Varty Camp. These images were taken with the intent of showing the human element of a wildlife safari in a way which would help the viewer to gain a deeper insight into the experience. Technology today is advancing at a rapid pace. Cellphones now boast incredibly powerful cameras and software applications for processing images on your phone. Here are some examples of images take and edited with my iPhone during the trip:
Top Tips for including the Human Element of your Wildlife Safari:
- Try and capture your wildlife subject and people in the same frame
- Use depth of field and focal length creatively to emphasise just how close you are to your subject
- Use a wide angle lens to capture more of the environment
- Try to capture natural moments rather than forced or posed moments
