“A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” – Nelson Mandela
Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals – for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr Mandela did. We are reaching out to everyone to do their 67 minutes to honour a great man. With Reverence, Londolozi celebrates Mandela’s 95 years of service today.
When asking staff members at Londolozi what they were going to do for Mandela’s birthday these were some of the responses:
‘We spent 67 minutes working in silence this morning’ – The Londolozi Kitchen, the noisiest place at Londolozi
‘I am going to spend 67 minutes with another staff member whom I have not ever spent that amount of time with at Londolozi’ – Duncan McLarty, Operations manager
‘We are not only going to spend 67 minutes picking up litter today but we are going to make a concerted effort not to ever walk passed a piece of litter again without picking it up’ – Ranger and Tracker team
‘I am going to clear my cupboard of clothes that I no longer need and give them to people less privileged than myself’ – Tammy Surtees, Camp Manager
‘I am going to plant trees around the lodge’ – Kenneth, Londolozi landscaper
There are candles burning in the Londolozi camps today to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela and what he has done for South Africa. We are offering to our guests to take time out of their day to visit the Londolozi village. They will walk the path of Freedoms way and will be reminded of Madiba’s great inspiration and will witness firsthand the pivotal role they, as a guest at Londolozi, play in opening up opportunities for individuals families and children to become the best version of themselves whilst visiting and/ or working at Londolozi.
Happy Birthday Madiba – Love your Londolozi family
I was also working for Londolozi in 1992 and had the privilege of meeting him and actually dining with him in the Boma with Dave, John and Shan and many others I will never forget what a charismatic man he is.
So proud of all the members of the Londolozi Family doing their bit for Mandela Day. Well done team!
Well done to you all, but we should do things like that on a daily basis, not just one day in 365?? Thanks Londolozi for sharing
I am always so touched by the kind hearts of the Londolozi family. All of us, all around the world, are better people because of Nelson Mandela and his life of service.
People around the world can learn so much from Nelson Mandela, a truly admirable man. In honor of his birthday I will spend 67 minutes of my day dedicated to animal rescue in our community. Bless you Mandela, you are in our thoughts with hope for your health and continued long life.
America’s leaders could benefit from his leadership and value system, especially in this time of heightened racial division. Congratulations to Londolozi for your recognition of Nelson Mandela.
