Wild dogs do something to the bush that nothing else quite does. The whole landscape lifts a gear when they’re around. Impalas start running before they’ve worked out what they’re running from. Even the air feels like it’s paying closer attention.
In this Virtual Safari, I got to spend a morning with the pack of six that has been moving through Londolozi.
It started with a radio call from Megs. The dogs were on the airstrip. I was a few minutes out, hoping to find a leopard instead, but a leopard can wait when wild dogs are on the move. So I changed direction and went to see what was unfolding.
What followed was one of those mornings that remind you why you do this. Six dogs. One airstrip. A herd of wildebeest with opinions about everything. A hunt that wasn’t where I expected to find it. And a couple of unexpected helpers that led us to where the story actually ended up.
This is a slightly different episode from the ones I usually put out. Instead of taking you through a week of small moments, I want to spend the whole runtime on one sighting. Because what happened over that morning kept me captivated from the get-go, and it deserves the room.
So press play. Come along for the ride…
