A great blog, Nic. It is so true – the bush never rests. Having taken trails for 20 years, to me, after sunset, sitting around the fire and listening to the night sounds, is the best time of the day.

A great article, Nic, on these elusive animals of the night. A night drive can be really exciting.
And above everything, the wonderful starry sky of the southern hemisphere.

Hi Nic, even at night the bush is alive although we don’t always see the animals and owls. Here on the reserve we have the owls as well and every night we hear them. Bushbabies are here in my roof and my husband made a house for them from a tree trunk which they use as well. Servet cats here as well and there are leopards and we have seen them on the cameras.

Beautiful … these smaller night animals are so special … genets, owls and porcupines … thank you! We have had all 3 in our garden on occassion …

👍

Oftentimes the best part of the afternoon drive, after the sundowner drinks and snacks have been put away, is the journey back to camp. It doesn’t matter if you take a picture, the experience of seeing one of these night creatures is enough b

Hi Nic, I love night exploring…. the bush baby is absolutely charming, the lioness looks quite different in black and white, her world becomes an environment at her ease… beautiful article!

Civets look like raccoons?? Those bush babies sure are adorable!
