In a world that is full of so many other distractions from what is raw and real, it is a true blessing to be able to raise our children surrounded by the greatest gift that the earth provides us with – Mother Nature with all of Her treasures and lessons.
The vast and varied nature of Londolozi provides a unique sense of wonder for our children that no other environment can, with its wildlife and landscapes. It is an opportunity to stimulate the senses, allow creativity to flourish, imagination to prosper and the soul to connect with what is important in life.
It isn’t just enjoyable- it is vital to their well-being and healthy development. Through their own experiences with the natural world around them, children are able to identify with their surroundings and therefore feel connected to the magic of the wild.
At Londolozi, we welcome children from the age of six and up in two of our camps to join us on safari, and in between the safaris there is a whole host of activities to keep them entertained and out of the parent’s hair. So when thinking about when to take your children out into nature, the sooner the better, get the children into the wilderness as young as possible and watch them thrive.
On a recent afternoon game drive accompanied by Sam and Seb, we encounter a herd of elephants on the Londolozi airstrip and have a remarkable sighting all the while, Seb is enamoured by the abundance of wildlife around us.

First of all, congratulations on the impending arrival of baby #2. I’m sure Seb will be happy to have a sibling to knock about with around camp. Your video actually brought tears to my eyes as it was so touching to see your son out in the big open space, watching the movements of elephants, zebras and wildebeest. Most other children his age will only observe them in zoos, of which I’m not a fan, especially for elephants. It’s always beautiful to watch a herd with little ones, staying close to mom, trunk flailing about in search of ??? Thank you for such a peaceful Sunday safari – see you in about 3 weeks!!

CONGRATULATIONS! So exciting! Best wishes for speedy delivery! Seb is ADORABLE and yes safari is a million times better than the zoo but zoo is all we could manage when my boys were little and I wanted them to appreciate and respect animals too. Since having been on safari now (Kenya) can’t ever visit a zoo again but our photos of ellies, widebeast, rhinos, hyena, giraffe, cheetah and a leopard grace our walls to encourage everyone who visits our home to go visit Africa!
