Romance is in abundance here at Londolozi. I’ve always believed that nature provides the most magical, memorable, and romantic backdrops for love, especially for those on their anniversary trips, engagement trips, and not to mention, for honeymooners. We understand that planning your honeymoon is a daunting one – after all, it is a momentous trip commemorating the start of your lives together as a married couple! These will be moments the two of you will look back on forever, remembering the early days in a place so special, it is ingrained in your hearts forever… It’s for these reasons that that you should consider a honeymoon on safari in Africa.
If I had to plan a honeymoon at Londolozi, it would go a little like this…
1. Spend time together in the Healing House
The Healing House has a vast variety of treatments on offer to our guests. But as a honeymoon couple, our recommendation is to jointly experience one of our curated 90-minute signature treatments, followed by an immersion together in our River Room, to experience our body activation treatment – a fusion between our hot Himalayan salt heat cabin, and cold plunge. You are sure to leave feeling deeply healed, relaxed, and rejuvenated, but you would have done it together! After what we are sure may have been a stressful planning period building up to the aisle – it is just what the two of you need. We then invite you to soak in moments of stillness together – inhaling the beautiful scents of blended essential oils and sipping on a brew of tea, overlooking the serene sand river.
2. Candle-lit evenings in the comfort of your own suite
Easily one of the most romantic things to do at Londolozi.
The evening is full of surprises as you step off your afternoon safari. Begin the evening by toasting to each other with a glass of champagne, in a bubble bath scattered with rose petals, and candlelight surrounding you. We then bring dinner to you in the privacy and comfort of your private sundeck. Picture this; lanterns flicker in the wind, and in wonder, you tune in to the bush orchestra that accompanies your intimate meal – magic. Over dinner, hand-pick a bottle of the finest South African wine from our array of family-run vineyards, and enjoy the stillness of nature as she serenades you, and your union with each other.
3. Wilderness picnics
I won’t spoil all the surprises, but I’ll let you in on a few of our secrets…
Imagine, being taken to an undisclosed location for lunch at Londolozi that overlooks the Sand River, suspended in tree canopies lies a private deck, with a spread so perfect, and decadent, and it’s just for the two of you. Bring along your binoculars, open that bottle of Tanqueray Gin, and take absolute joy in being in the wilderness on a once-in-a-lifetime experience together.
4. Book a Private Vehicle
For couples wanting the utmost privacy, we highly recommend booking a private vehicle for your stay. Along with a dedicated ranger and tracker, you are ensured outright privacy and extreme flexibility for game drive arrangements, leaving the opportunity for extraordinary discoveries at favourable times that suit you. With the vehicle all to yourselves, you will feel like the only people exploring Londolozi, soaking it all in together.
5. Experience a private river affair
Whichever camp you choose to stay at will be extraordinary, suits all occasions, and travellers. But if I were planning my Honeymoon at Londolozi, I wouldn’t think twice about where I was going to stay – the Private Granite Suites.
Accommodating 6 guests, the Private Granite Suites is certainly the most romantic of our camp offerings for honeymooners. Together you’ll have the opportunity to be left totally on your own, or with the possibility of interacting with other couples staying in the camp. Evenings around the fire, in the sunken fire-pit, or in your suite will leave you both deeply connected. The three Private Granite Suites all have their own private sun decks that look onto granite rocks, private pools, and my favourite part – outdoor baths. There are many areas of this camp, and in your suite, for still moments of romance together. Sometimes, you don’t need to have an activity planned, all you need is each other – Londolozi and her wilderness will take care of the rest of that for you.
6. Keepsakes from the photographic studio
Whether you have rented equipment from our photographic studio or not, I strongly encourage our honeymoon couples to take a piece of Londolozi home with them, in the form of a canvas print. That way, once you’ve returned home from your travels, you can frame your picture and remember your time on honeymoon at Londolozi forever. Choose from your favourite pictures during the trip, or perhaps, there is a little surprise in store for you and we will set up something special, creating the perfect picture.
7. Immerse yourselves in Londolozi’s culture together
After you’ve returned from a morning safari, and eaten a delectable breakfast, take part in one of our village walks. On your walk, you will encounter how we as staff live in Londolozi’s Futuristic African Village. You’ll be greeted with laughter as you walk by the creche, feel speechless walking in Nelson Mandela’s footprints through Freedom’s Way, and delight in seeing our Londolozi Village Gardens, Nursery, Solar Farm, and Learning Centre. There is a whole world that exists behind the camps, and we invite you to become even more apart of the family by experiencing it first hand.
8. Star Gazing on the airstrip
On your way back from your afternoon safari, take some time to stop on the airstrip under a blanket of stars. Wonder in amazement, with no light pollution, no city noise, and listen to the night life awaken. It’s just the two of you, this moment is incredibly special and you’ve never seen anything like it. Hold hands, look up at the stars, and soak in Africa’s beauty together.
9. Take a slow drive through the Leadwood Forest
Undoubtedly my favourite place at Londolozi. The Leadwood Forrest is the word “magic” personified. The friendship and love these trees have witnessed is uncountable, and their wisdom is rooted through hundreds of years. The Leadwood Forrest will fill you with pure joy for being alive.
10. Moments of romance in nature
Romance doesn’t have to begin and end at the camp. Love is someone to share paradise with, and what better paradise than in Africa at Londolozi? Whether you are watching a pride of lions walk-by the vehicle, or a herd of elephants lazily walk through open crests, or perhaps its sipping on a refreshing gin and tonic together, make sure to stop, be still, and take in Africa’s beauty together – her sunsets are my most treasured part, and to me, there is nothing more romantic than watching the sky awash with bright, bold, and warm colours in the sky. My place of choice for this is none other than on top of Ximpalapala Koppie – trust me, you don’t want to miss it!
Londolozi has been the nurturer of love for almost 100 years. One way or another, this place has played a significant role in connecting people by providing a space for people to find themselves, the natural world, and each other.
Together is a beautiful place to be, especially at Londolozi. Have you had a Honeymoon or anniversary with us at Londolozi? Let us know in the comments section below…

That is wonderful to hear, Kara!
We’ve had several romantic anniversary lunches in a leadwood tree, a birthday bbq at the base of a koppie, memorable camp picnics under the stars – swoon…. And soon a “big” birthday and “big”anniversary at our ‘favoritist’ place in the world! A honeymoon? Oh yes!
All of those memories sound so special, Mary!
