The world seems to have gone particularly crazy this last week with Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Our inboxes have been inundated with emails from brands about the huge discounts they are giving, how it will never be repeated and urging us to hurry, hurry, hurry as stocks are limited! It has felt somewhat juxtaposed to the way this year has been trying to teach us all to slow down, focus inwards and realise that the things that truly matter are health, family and how our own small actions can affect the lives of others. And so it feels like Giving Tuesday has come at the perfect time… as a balm to the consumerism of the past week, and as a way to remind us about the small ways that we can all make a difference to the lives of others.
“Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The idea of Giving Tuesday– a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on December 1, 2020 and every day. It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Giving Tuesday is certainly a concept that resonates so deeply with the Londolozi values and we are thrilled to be involved again this year.
Last year we managed to raise $14 000 for GWF through our Giving Tuesday campaign! We have you to thank for that, our generous and supportive Londolozi Family.
With the combined energy of the Londolozi Family who, in doing their work for our guests and extended family all over the world, exude their love of being of service, and our Good Work Foundation Family who are the everyday undercover heroes, giving of their time and enthusiasm for education, we harness the global trend of counteracting consumerism with kindness and the world’s insatiable need for more things with gratitude and appreciation for the way in which we can affect positive change in the world.
This Giving Tuesday, we call on as many members of our extended Londolozi Family as possible to join us in this generosity movement and help us to raise funds for GWF’s Open Learning Academy for 2021. Our goal is to help Good Work Foundation with their goal by raising $20 000 for them between now and the end of February 2021.
About Londolozi’ 2020 Giving Tuesday Mission
- Be a hero. Gift a rural South African learner access to wonder-filled learning with the award-winning Good Work Foundation.
- The problem. In rural South Africa, of 100 South African child that start school, approximately 60 will reach and write matric, 37 will pass, and 12 will access university. This crippling problem will be even more exacerbated going into 2021.
- A solution. Good Work Foundation’s Open Learning Academy offers a change in the trajectory for over 7,500 Grade 4 to Grade 8 learners in a network of 29 schools in the Bushbuckridge community.
At the end of the day, giving is contagious for all the right reasons. That rush we get from being the one to give a gift that is appreciated is addictive. After a year such as this one, isn’t the simple act of giving with an open heart the antidote to so many of our woes? A trip to a campus when you visit Londolozi will be inspirational! Try to arrange it in advance.
We all need a quiet reminder that in spite of what we’ve all endured during this past year, there is always a place for giving. My gift is on the way.
A thoughtful piece and generosity is needed more than ever this year!😊
Amanda, We are with you! Just made a donation (a little late). Thinking of you all and hoping everyone is doing well!
Love all of this!!
