Guests Phil and Dawn Judd visited us in the heart of winter for a change of scenery from their usual summer vacations. “Prior to this trip, we had only ever visited Londolozi in summer, which we love because the area is so green,” says Phil. However he adds, “I love the soft light and colours of winter, especially for taking photographs. Animals blend in beautifully to their surrounds.” Below are a few images taken in July that showcase some of the highlights of his time, and of his photography – magical moments include seeing a giraffe calf feeding from its mother and a saddle-billed stork captured in flight.
Phil shoots with a Nikon D4 with a 600 mm lens. Click here to read part 1 that features Phil’s images from his trips in 2012 and 2013.
Every season at Londolozi offers something special to its visitors – that’s why there’s no one time to visit that is better than any other. Read our blog ‘When is the best time to Visit?’ to find out the attractions that each month brings to the bushveld experience.

Amazing images. Giraffes are beautiful. Great to capture the Tsalala pride walking in single file.
Thanks Marinda. I have to say that in all my years traveling to Africa this had to be the best giraffe photos I have every managed to get. Our low position, the early morning light and the dark blue sky set them off beautifully.
Beautiful photographs Phil, they’re all just stunning! Thank you for sharing them!
Your very welcome Jill. It is always such a privilege to see the wonderful variety that is Africa, and of course share them.
i am updating my email. Your pictures make want to come back every year. I love to stay I touch. Thanks again for your wonderful blog and pictures and is Dudly Rverbank female still with us, when I was there in April, everyone thought she looked bad.
Even though I took the photos, each time my wife and I watch the slideshow on our kitchen television it makes us want to go back again, and again!
Beautiful photos Phil and Dawn. Tsalala pride in single file is special!
I must admit I was very pleased with this shot. It was very early in the morning we had only just gone out and the light was very poor but it was worth pushing the ISO to capture it.
I particularly like the giraffe family of three, great images Phil.
Thanks Kate. It almost looks as though it is a posed shot for a postcard. There is a huge amount of luck in photography, being in the right place, position and time! My favorite too.
Beautiful images they all are. Thanks Phil for sharing.
