Londolozi’s not-for-profit partner, Good Work Foundation (GWF), has recently partnered with South African coffee brand, vida e caffè, on a nationwide campaign to support new education technologies and practices in South Africa’s rural spaces.
Until 22 March 2015, customers at vida e caffè espresso bars can add A Shot of Life (five rand) to their bill with the proceeds going to GWF’s Open Learning Academy model, which allows rural public-sector schools to outsource their digital learning to a GWF-operated digital learning centre.
Many of our non-South African visiting guests have asked how they can join in. If you are traveling to Johannesburg or Cape Town during your stay, look out for vida e caffè espresso bars. There are over 70 across South Africa, including at the V&A Waterfront, Camps Bay, Greenmarket Square and Stellenbosch in the Cape Town region, and at OR Tambo Airport and Sandton City in Johannesburg.
To all of our South African friends and ambassadors, share the online story by tweeting a photo of your vida receipt and adding the following hashtags: #vidaGWF and #ShotOfLife. You can follow @GwfOnline, @londolozi and @vidaecaffe.
Here is some of the action from the campaign so far. On the web, in the espresso bar, and at Good Work Foundation.
On the (Social) Web:

Londolozi Executive Chef, Anna Ridgewell, gets her #ShotOfLife on her way back from her Australia food safari.

The incredibly talented (“and now comes with two front teeth”) Maya Groch at OR Tambo International Airport does her first ever #ShotOfLife and her first ever Instagram. You can follow GWF on instagram @goodworkfoundation.

Have some fun with us and post some #ShotOfLife pictures on Twitter. Use the hashtags: #vidaGWF and #ShotOfLife and follow @GwfOnline and @vidaecaffe.
In the Espresso Bar

Left: Njabulo and Teaman, volunteers at Good Work Foundation, get the #ShotOfLife at Sandton City (and yes, Teaman is more of a coffee man). Right: Look out for the #ShotOfLife posters nationwide.

Left: All you have to do is ask for a “Shot of Life” at the till, and five rand will be add to your bill, with all proceeds going to Good Work Foundation’s Open Learning Academy. Top right: Special cupcakes to launch the #ShotOfLife campaign. Bottom right: #ShotOfLife badge.
At Good Work Foundation

The Open Learning Academy model that GWF has built is based on high-tech “hubs” supporting satellite public-sector schools, and uses the latest education technology to dramatically improve English, math’s, and digital literacy levels in primary school students. GWF is currently piloting the Open Learning Academy model at three South African digital learning centres, with 12 participating rural public-sector schools.
Every little bit helps, and to activate a movement we need your help in sharing this campaign. We would love to feature your #ShotOfLife photos across our social media. We would also like to know how visible the campaign has been. If you have seen A Shot Of Life, either online or in-store, let us know in the comments section below.
A big thank-you for all your support from the team at Good Work Foundation.
A great initiative that I will definitely support on my visits to the City. I’ll also be spreading the word. Thank you Ryan and GWF.
Thanks for supporting #ShotOfLife Kate! Great excuse to drink more coffee 🙂
That’s fantastic Ryan, what a great campaign and for such a good cause! I love the photo of beautiful Maya too!
She is a rock star! One of the most dedicated team GWF members 🙂
