That’s great to hear, I love it when one of the big male cats seems to like the cubs, it’s why I always liked Makulu best out of the Mapogos, he was the one happiest being with the ladies and cubs. Also why Yambilu Jordaan was my favourite male leopard, he tolerated his offspring around him long past when it was time for them to move on, and was often to be found sitting with them. There’s one video of him sitting with the latest cubs and also one of the previous litter while Karula was off hunting lol !

Thank you for keeping us appraised of the Majingilane and Sparta lions.. How amazing it must be to watch such magnificent animals live out their lives right in front of you. Hip Scar reminds me also of Yambilu Jorrdan.. What a wonderful combination of power and gentleness.

Again thank you Helen & James.

Nice to see the gentle side of him. Thanks!

What is the male/female make-up of the 7 Sparta cubs?

Hi Bader,

6 out of the 7 cubs are male. The makings of another Mapogo coalition possibly? Remember that the Mapogo originated from the Sparta Pride.
This is not ideal for the pride however, as more female cubs would be better for the pride to grow, as lionesses will remain with the pride into which they are born.
