These photos are spectacular Kate…I especially love the ones of the Milky Way! Thank you for all the great tips as well — I will certainly try them out and continue to work on my photographic skills, so that whenever I am fortunate enough to be back at Londolozi, I will be able to capture more beautiful pictures!

I am glad I could help Jill! Good luck with trying it out and I look forward to seeing some images when you visit us again!

Kindest regards,
Kate

Thank you for the info. I confess that I do not show any of my pictures to anyone because each shot is so personal I can’t share.

Some excellent suggestions here. Thank you.

Having photographed big cats in both Africa and India this advice is spot on, I have seen so many people stand up to get a photo and that distorts the angle, always try to look into the eyes of the animal.
Also try and use the spot metering, especially for leopard.
A camera will not discriminate between the leopard and the tree when setting using centre-weighted or evaluative metering, spot metering will discriminate. Also try to set the aperture as wide as possible, this will help isolate the subject from its background and will increase shutter speed.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for the feedback, I am glad you enjoyed the post! Your advice on metering and aperture is great, thanks for sharing!

Kindest regards,
Kate

Kate, some excellent tips and techniques in this post. Well done. I particularly like the technique of motion blur, which is both challenging to capture and visually interesting to look at. Would love to see a post on this if possible. rich
