robert_sithole_londoloziRobert Sithole, Londolozi Habitat manager, is pioneering local industry and a lighter footprint through the initiation of his nursery and vegetable garden.  Situated at the back of the Londolozi village, the nursery and vegetable garden have recently been restored and given a fresh outlook as a result of the planting and potting that has taken place over the last few weeks.

he development of both projects have been done in order to assist the entire Londolozi family in leaving a lighter footprint.  The vegetables grown here will be sold to the kitchen and the plants used throughout the camps as well as along Madiba’s Way, the walk that Madiba took when he first visited Londolozi upon his release from prison.

Guests at Londolozi will also have the opportunity to contribute to a greener planet by buying and planting a tree grown at the nursery along Madiba’s Way or in the camp in which they are staying.

With the assistance of Kenneth Jazi and Dave Varty, this model of sustainable development is also being spearheaded by Robert outside the reserve.  He is currently setting up a similar nursery/vegetable garden setup in a community called Huntington which includes a borehole for irrigation, a supply of seed and saplings and now, demand from the Londolozi kitchen for freshly grown local produce.

Well done Robert, we look forward to watching your vegetable garden and nursery expand as well as the continuing growth of the trees.
