What an almost lyrical accounting! And such joy in Veatence’s face. Fascinating report of this special find. Thank you, Megan.

Proving the bush is to always about the Big Five

I would so love to see a honey badger (but not if I was on foot!)

Finally, a bug post. And my favourite animal, the honey badger, to boot. Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this. I too wouldn’t have been able to pass up an opportunity to get sticky fingers 😋

How exciting and how rare, to find such a beehive.
Nature is indeed full of surprises every day.

Thanks Megan for your informative and fascinating post today. Veatance certainly looked happy with the discovery of the Mopane bee hive that once existed in that hole, evidenced by his big smile and honey-covered fingers. Whilst expectations run high to see the big five during a safari drive, it’s oftentimes the smaller discoveries that leave indelible memories, those unexpected such as the topic of your blog. Btw, did any of your guests leave the vehicle to check the burrow and taste the remaining honey?

What a great story, thanks for sharing Megan

Honey badgers are such characters! I’m sorry for bees, never-ending workers, but this is nature, and, honestly, it’s hard not to like honey! Very nice blog

Hi Megan, thanks for your story Along the Sand River. Talking about the Mopane stingless bee. We have a tube like hive of Mopane bees in our front yard. My husband called me and showed them to me. They are so small and very active going in and out the tube. We did not disturb the tube and actually packed some big stones around it so that the other animals don’t disturb them. Looking at his face, tells me he really enjoyed the Honey. Honey badgers are such clever animals and furious as well.

What an unexpected discovery! I bet your guests were thrilled with such a unique find.

Glad to see you are still thrilled by these unexpected, sometimes hidden, finds when out and about with Veatence. I can just picture him holding his hand up from his perch when he spotted the hole.
