on Signs of Spring: Rainfall, Returning Migrants, and the Colours of Plumage

Hi Megan, here on our reserve we had 12mm rain so far, we are awaiting the migratory birds. Here are a few swallows so far, but we are still waiting for the others. Their colorful plumage of the males are absolutely beautiful. Spring is here and we are so privileged to see the birds in their plumage colours.

These colourful birds are such a pretty sight.Amazing, the different Color’s and shades nature has the birds provided with. Thanks for explaining this phenomenon of changing plumage so well.

This is a good follow-up to Bryce’s article about the first signs of spring. Learning more about the science behind the changes in coloration in several of the birds that call Londolozi home is fascinating. Hopefully the lowveld will continue to enjoy the light rains of spring.
