Every season at Londolozi holds its own kind of magic. But there’s something particularly special about winter here. While the landscape shifts into golden hues and dusty browns, something happens within the camps themselves. The cooler air invites fires to be lit, indulgent warm bubble baths to be taken, and thick duvets to be snuggled beneath.
Here are just a few ways winter weaves its magic through camp life at Londolozi…
The Atmosphere Winter Brings to Your Camp Deck:
Winter has a way of quietly shifting the mood here at the camps. As the sun begins to dip and the air cools, a gentle stillness settles in. Our team lights fires around camp, while lanterns and candles are thoughtfully placed in quiet corners and along the wooden decks. The spaces begin to glow, becoming even more intimate, creating the perfect setting for pre-dinner moments: cozy chats around the fire and red wine flowing freely. This is what winter is all about.
Your Chalet Becomes an Extra-Cozy Retreat:
There’s something wonderfully comforting about coming back to your chalet after a cool morning or evening spent on a game drive. In winter, it becomes a true cozy sanctuary. The bed is layered with thick duvets, and there’s no better excuse than winter to climb beneath them and stay there a little longer. You might make yourself a coffee and find a quiet corner to sit and sip while reading a book or simply watching the bush beyond your deck.
Because plant life is sparser and trees are drier in winter, animals are easier to see. Elephant herds often wander close by, giving you the chance to enjoy them right from your chalet.
And not to mention, winter is the perfect excuse to indulge in a long, luxurious bubble bath. Each Londolozi chalet is thoughtfully equipped with everything you need to unwind, from soothing bath salts to rich, aromatic bubble bath.

If you’re staying in one of the Granite Suites, you’re in for something truly special: a private outdoor tub with sweeping views of the surrounding wilderness. There’s nothing quite like soaking in warm water, completely immersed in nature, as the cool winter air drifts by.
Aloe Blooms All Around Camp:
As the dry season settles in and the landscape fades into soft browns and muted yellows, a surprising splash of colour brightens our camps. Aloe plants lining the pathways and gardens suddenly burst into bloom, their flowers ranging from vibrant orange to deep coral.
The brightly coloured flowers offer not only beauty but also life. They attract a steady stream of sunbirds: tiny, iridescent flashes of green, blue, and purple, hovering from flower to flower. Be sure to keep an eye out for these beautiful creatures on your walks through camp.
Evenings Around the Fire:
Arguably, the best part of winter at Londolozi? A warm, crackling fire in the evening. As night falls and the air cools, you make your way back to camp from your game drive, greeted by a roaring fire, a glass of red wine, and friendly, familiar faces ready to welcome you.
There’s something almost magical about these nights. The way the firelight flickers softly, lanterns swinging gently from tree branches, and candles casting a warm glow across the tables. Camp feels especially alive at this time. The winter flames burn brighter, and people instinctively gather closer.
As you can see, wintertime at Londolozi brings countless cozy, magical moments. Whether it’s the glow of a boma fire, the comfort of your chalet, or the unexpected burst of colour from blooming aloes, the season adds something truly special to every corner of our camps.
