The diversity of animals and the incredible landscapes of Londolozi allow for unique and unbelievable photographic opportunities for both guides and guests. The change in seasons and the golden light of the African sky only add to these incredible moments. Londolozi has a Fine Arts website with a hand-selected and curated gallery of images captured from the Londolozi ecosystem.
Although I find it very tough to choose only ten images, these are my top ten images from the Fine Arts website. If you happen to love any of these too, they are all purchasable, all you need to do is hover over the image and then click on the little shopping trolley in the bottom right corner.
Enjoy…
Number 10:
The Greeting Between Two Elephants
The greeting of two elephants as they extend their trunks towards each other. The blurred background and textured trunks, in black and white, creates a beautiful contrast. Elephants are known to many as ‘gentle giants’, yet portray great power and tranquillity, especially when interacting with each other.
Number 9:
Dung Beetles
The start of a dung ball compared to what it is to become. I love the comparative nature in this image as the dung beetle with the small ball gazes up at the other, larger dung ball. The small stones with the dung ball create beautiful texture and contrast.
Number 8:
Giraffes Necking
These two male giraffes were practising their necking skills side by side. The symmetry of the two necks as they practice their necking skills really draws the viewer’s eye in. Necking is how male giraffes compete with each other for breeding rights.
Number 7:
Othawa Male Lion Portrait
Although sadly now deceased, the Othawa Male was one of my favourite male lions to see. His impressive mane and crisp green eyes are complemented by the green and blue hues in the background of this image, making this one of my top ten images.
Number 6:
Nhlanguleni female carrying her Cub
A once in a lifetime photograph of a tiny leopard cub being carried by its mother. The Nhlanguleni female carried one of her two cubs to a new den site. Just, incredible.
Number 5:
Elephant Calf Drinking
This tiny elephant calf drinks beneath its mother in this high-key white background image – bringing out the dark textured skin of these elephants. The size of the mother’s feet dwarfs this little calf as it leans forward, attempting to drink with its not-yet-controllable trunk.
Number 4:
Leopard Yawning in a Leadwood
This male leopard yawns on the dead branch of a leadwood tree. There is something about a leopard and a leadwood – as the fissured dead branches on a leadwood creates an undeniably iconic photograph.
Number 3:
Ndzanzeni female Stalking
The Ndzanzeni female stalks directly toward the camera, notice her impressive shoulders, they allow her to lower herself to the ground. The green of her eyes compliments the greenery around her. A fantastic image.
Number 2:
Wild Dogs on the Airstrip as the Sun Began to Set
The calm before the storm. Five wild dogs scan their surroundings from an elevated area just as the sun starts to dip toward the horizon. The golden light illuminated by the stormy clouds creates an incredibly dramatic backdrop from eye level.
Number 1:
The Three Rivers Female and her Reflection
The Three Rivers Female poses perfectly for a drink, leaving a crisp reflection in the water below. This is by far my favourite photo on the Fine Arts website. The soft golden light brings out the beautiful coat of this female leopard. The still reflection with her eyes gazing directly at you makes this my top image.
Whilst very difficult to put these into an order of my top ten images, I feel this encapsulates some of my favourite moments that have been captured in our incredible wilderness at Londolozi.
You can visit our Londolozi Fine Arts Website here to curate your very own gallery of your favourite images.
Let me know which are your top 10.
Great choices Kirst for your top 10 photos and that final image of the Three Rivers female has been a favorite of mine. I’m not sure that I could choose my favorite 10!
Awesome.
Kirst, thank you for sharing your favorite pictures. Hard to choose a favorite as you have chosen several really great photos.
Amazing photos.
Hi Kirst, even without a captivating background the Three River Female and the Othawa male are such gorgeous examples of their own species, I rarely saw such a handsome male lion, he was a perfect creature selected by nature. The Three River Female will hopefully last for a long time…
You chose 10 beauties, Kirst! What a tough job to pick just 10! Don’t think I could do!
Kirst your choices are phenomenal. I tried to go in the link you gave for the fine arts website, but it kept on closing without showing all the images. I loved your choice of the Othawa male lion, I was heartbroken when it was announced that he was killed. The leopardess Nhlanguleni females carrying her cub is an awesome image, as is the other leopardessess.
Some fantastic pictures their, everything from the elephants greeting each other to the Othawa male, the leopard mother carrying her cub. The Ndzanzeni female stalking has to be my favourite, she looks so intense, life or death situation for some poor herbivore anyway.
I like wildlife art like this, I might consider buying one. I’ve got plans to buy the famous pic of five Mapogo drinking, I plan to hang just above my tv and hopefully can expand it to the size of my tv without much resolution loss.
outstanding images. definitely some of my favorites too
Fabulous collection, Kirst!
My goodness those are all amazing – I hadn’t before seen the elephant calf – how gorgeous!
Wonderful picks Kirst! It must have been a very difficult choice. I have been saving my favourites from the blogs and love to go back over them.
Hi Kirsti – please could you let me know the size of the prints if ordered. Thanks so much – Patsy
