on One Mongoose, Many Mongooses!

Hi Patrick. Ah man. I love this post. Being a lover of all these Mustelid (long small furry things with very sharp teeth and big personalities), I really love Mongooses because they fit those same character traits. What is the size difference between the Mellers and the Slender Mongoose? They look identical on the photos above.

It’s always such a pleasure to watch mongooses. They are so entertaining and cute. I really like watching them

Thanks Patrick for this wonderful refresher blog referencing the Mongoose families. These little guys can be so difficult to see since they move so quickly, unless you’re fortunate enough to find one or more at their den or stopping for a drink. They are fascinating little animals to watch and a highlight on any drive.

Some of my favorite saved images are those of dwarf mongooses at eye level.

Hi Patrick, they are always busy foraging and looking out for each other. Here on the reserve we also have the banded mongoose. They raided my Natal Spurfowls nest and ate all her eggs up, they would of hatched two days later. Naughty but cute and always on the move.

Pat, we found this really interesting. And the collective name of all the species is always so much fun but this one takes the cake … business? What is their business that makes a gathering of mongoose not simply mongeese? Ha!

Mongoose are cute little critters but, like all mustelides, have a strength and aggressivity that are second to none! Still in my mind the scenes of a small Mongoose fighting against a huge cobra… guess who was the winner…
