It has been a while since we have done a Bird ID Challenge, and I guess, since we are running with the theme of birding this year, having only just started our Birding Big Year Challenge, I thought this would be a great one to start off with.
This was the first time I had ever seen this bird, and I was ecstatic to be able to tick it off. However, if you have seen it before or know what bird it is, this shouldn’t be too difficult for you. I snapped numerous photos of it and some would have been perfect for this challenge, but being a fool, I only thought about this after downloading the better images and formatting the camera card. So what we have here is a screenshot of a video I took.
This bird has only apparently been seen at Londolozi once before, and even that is a sketchy record. Just kidding, it was by David Dampier, who is not a half-bad birder, and so we could probably trust him on that.
We will reveal the answer next week.
Good luck.

I think it is a green twinspot
Not a bad guess. We will reveal the answer soon.
Obviously cannot see size but it could be a (female?) Green Twinspot??
We will let you know soon.
Well, actually I have no idea. So here is a guess: The Green Twinspot?
Will let you know soon.
Hello Sean,
I think it is a Green twinspot.
(Mandingoa nitidula)
I love that you have taken up ”What Bird Is This”.
Birds are so wonderful!
Looking forward to your answer.
I am very excited to get it up and going again.
Hi Sean, it looks like one of the “twinspots” to me.
Will reveal the answer very soon.
Green-backed Twinspot?
Will let you know soon.
In no birder, but could it be a twinspot, perhaps a red-throated male?
For a non-birder, that is not a bad guess. We will let you know the answer soon.
Thanks for the challenge Sean! Love this. I think it might be a Green Twinspot.
Thanks so much, Camilla. We will reveal the answer soon.
Is it a Honeybird?
Nope, not a honeybird. Will let you know the answer soon.
Is it a Babbler?
Nope, sadly not a babbler. Will let you know soon.
Is it an Arrow Marked Babbler?
Sadly, not a babbler, we will reveal the answer soon.
Green Backed Twinspot !
Good guess, we will reveal the answer soon.
