This morning’s game drive began with a thrilling sight of the two Ndzhenga Males, moving purposefully into the wind, clearly tracking something carried on the breeze. Word from our neighbours suggested that another group of lions had been following a herd of buffalo, which might have been what drew these males in that direction. Their focused determination allowed us to predict their path, getting us ahead of them several times. This gave us the incredible experience of watching these two powerful males stride right past our vehicle several times before heading down into the Sand River.
Afterwards, we returned to where the Ndzhenga Males had first begun their mission, only to be greeted by a spectacular photographic moment. The Kambula Pride, in the middle of the Monzo Sheet Erosion, was moving through the area’s vast open clearing, the short grass offering a perfect view. Watching the pride follow one another as they too walked past our vehicle was nothing short of breathtaking.

Hi Sean, it is rare to see such a large pride of lions, with all members in such good conditions and the lions bearing such magnificent manes…. they are simply gorgeous and an example of a very successful life in the right environment…
The Kambula Pride are an impressive pride, with their numbers and size of the females. They appear to be thriving at the moment.
Fab-u-lous! Lions walking past you in the vehicle is so special. The 1st time we came we were so fortunate to have this experience…..8 lionesses padded past us within touching distance. Then the male lion followed, and as he passed he turned his head and looked straight at me! Although I’ve been lucky enough to see many more lions since, I’ll never forget this 1st time.
Having any lions walk right past the vehicle is such an amazing experience. That certainly is an exhilarating experience, one that makes time almost stand still and your heart to skip a few beats.

Hi Sean, that is wonderful to see these two Ndhzenga males walking right passed your Land Rover a few times. They are very impressive males with their dark main. Highlight to see the Kambula pride together, moving to a different location as each one gets up and moves following the female.
It was great to be there and enjoy these lions on the move.
Seeing the Kambula Pride in their entirety is nothing short of breathtaking. Some of those cubs are almost the size of their mothers it seems. I hadn’t noticed the size difference between the two Ndhzenga males until I saw your footage of the two walking along the road from their behinds. The larger of the two has a darker, thicker mane as well. This was a very relaxing Sunday morning virtual safari that I really enjoyed watching.
The Kambula Cubs are growing and developing into healthy lions. Yes, there is quite a big size difference between the two Ndzhenga Males.
The smaller male looks a bit beat up?! 🙁 Love that they were hanging at the ‘beach’ 😉
He does look a little tattered. After a long morning march they eventually ended up at the beach for a rest.
