Julius and his guests were watching the Maxabeni Female and the Marthly Male mating when they heard the ominous sounds of a buffalo in distress. Carefully picking their way through the thick riverine bush, just north of the Sand River, they eventually worked their way down to the commotion. The Tsalala Pride was in full cry as they attempted to kill a buffalo that they had managed to bring down. In just under an hour it was all over as the buffalo lay dead for the pride to feast.
It was sad to see the aged buffalo lying in a crumpled heap, however the paradox was the sheer excitement of the young cubs of the Tailless female. Curious and clumsy, the cub was chased around by the lionesses of the Tsalala pride in between investigating the kill. Enjoy these images below…

Is this the full compliment of the pride at the moment? 5 lionesses + 1 cub?
Gary, very shortly we will put up a complete breakdown of this pride
I so love the photo of BB and her cub snuggling. In fact, all the photos are great. Thank you for sharing.
Those Tsalala females are incredible hunters!! Bringing down a buffalo that big without Males is an incredible feat! They are impressive.. Is there any chance of crocodiles coming to the kill?
Adam,
Was this outside of Granite Suites? There was an old bull we photographed a few times from our rear deck wandering just past the fence. I wonder if that was him, the poor fellow. -Sam
