Happy Birthday – Mandela’s Way
Robert- Londolozi land care manager presents to Chris Kane Berman Londolozi GM his Birthday present– a gift to the earth .
The vision of Londolozi is to “create a space and a place where people can become the best versions of themselves ….and to become a voice for right relations between people, the earth , and its wild inhabitants”
In ensuring that we at Londolozi will always be reminded of Madiba’s inspiration we have decided to build a pathway to the Londolozi learning centre called Mandela’s Way.
Guests , who every day visit the Londolozi learning centre , will walk this path, will be reminded of Madiba’s great inspiration and will witness firsthand the pivotal role they, as guest at Londolozi , play in opening up opportunities for individuals families and children to become the best version of themselves whilst visiting and/ or working at Londolozi .
Mandela’s way will be lined with indigenous trees and shrubs, planted by visitors and staff alike over the course of the next few years in the co creation of a living tribute to Madiba.
The philosophy is simple, rather than receive or give gifts on special occasions, we are suggesting that we all acknowledge each other by collectively giving gifts to the earth such as trees and shrubs which create habitats and niches for insects and birds and which enhance biodiversity on the earth.
Mandela’s way is intended to give expression to such beliefs and Chris Kane Berman; Londolozi’s GM is seen here planting his birthday present as the first tree of many which will line Mandela’s Way for years to come.
“During my long walk to freedom, I had the rare privilege to visit Londolozi. There I saw people of all races living in harmony amidst the beauty that mother nature offers. There I saw a living lion in the wild. Londolozi represents a model of the dream I cherish for the future of nature preservation”. Nelson Mandela
Chris adding the finishing touches.
I’m wanting some great providers of rare trees. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
We grow most of our own trees in the nursery at Londolozi and as such we are not sure of any suppliers. Perhaps if you try various nurseries in the Johannesburg region you will be successful. Good luck
