According to some infos Short tail male is the son of Tugwaan Young male but according to some others, he would be rather the son of Manyelethi. Both of these males were quite young at the time of birth of Short tail male (many names for this "man": Shorty, Lex male, Bicycle crossing, Tugwaan, etc.. By the way Tugwaan may be not a good name for him since there is a Tegwan male more in the north.. I know Tegwan is not Tugwaan but...) in may 2000... Once again, genetic studies would be useful...

Hi Jackie, typically wild dogs will attempt to hunt daily as they have the whole pack to feed as well as having an extremely high hunting success rate, around 70 - 80 percent.

Hello, thank you so much for the updates on the Wild Dog, i was wondering if they would attempt a kill daily as part of their routine being such a large pack, or is it consitent with the dogs to have fresh meat for the pups daily... so special

Thanks Rich, I assumed as much taking hold of the Tugwaan as his territory, intersting this name as the Short Tail Male was in my opinion fatherer by the Tugwaan Male the son of Tugwaan Female so he form part of the original mother leopard lineage.

Always read with pleasure weekly wildlife sighting , thank you !
May I do a recomandation to you ? It will help a lot if you can nominate characters ... I'm quite sure if a ranger see " 2 sparta females Tamboti donga " he knows exactly if there are young subadult females or 2 older females known as sparta breakaway ... Or ''Sparta 4 Elmon’s Kraal Guarri'' - if here was a young subadult male or Tsalala young male will be very easy to recognize...
I'm thinking those who read this weekly wildlife sighting are people who knows closely the characters so in this way they will benefit for a better overview .
I just hope my arguments are logical and don't bother you .

It might be Oliver, although the female that we are seeing looks younger rather than older. We will try and get a picture of her and see if you do recognise her in any shape or form.

Thanks for the updates. There used to be a female leopard at Xipalapala called short-tail. she had 2 cubs, a male and a female. When she died her female cub stayed around Xipalapala. She was always very skittish. Wonder if it is still the same leopard that you are seeing now. She would be about 9 years old now.

Thanks for the updates. Always interesting, good stuff. Hey rich, do you have a file maybe on how many animals you have on londolozi of each species of last year maybe or on the last game count you did? Could you maybe send a copy of it to me. Just for interest sake. If you can. I'm a student studying game ranch management, not a poacher!!

It looks like it Gloria, however it can change literally overnight if one coalition decides to head towards the other. We will be sure to keep you informed of what is going on.

Jacques as far as I know it was the pack of 8 that was seen over the course of the last week. Always awesome to see the dogs running through the property. Last night they brought down an impala in the south of the reserve.

Hi Suzanne, good suggestion and one that is definitely worth doing. Let me see what I can do in terms of putting together a hi-resolution map with road names that will fit on the blog.

We were lucky enough to stay at Founders in Feb this year and I love reading the blog and weekly sightings. I kept a note of the leopards we saw but I don't know where all the locations are in relation to one another. Is it possible to get a map of the reserve?

The new coalition is north of the Sand River and the Mapogo Males are all in the west. It seems that the rest of the different prides have all gathered in and around Londolozi to get away from this period of instability. It does mean that there have been phenomenal sightings over the last month.

Hi Conor, It's great news that the dogs are back. It is not usual for us to see them during the summer and autumn months, however we do get the occasional sighting. In winter however, Wild Dog viewing is fantastic here. I recall last year a pack denned in the southern section of Londolozi. At the moment we are not sure if they have started reusing that den sight or the dogs we have seen are passing through. Hopefully they will be denning.

Wild Dogs at Londolozi!!! My favorite!!! I was last at Londolozi for a week, in late May/early June of 2005...no wild dogs sadly but lots of leopards. I kept track of the stats actually. Has a pack ever been established (i.e. denned, regular hunting grounds etc.) at Londo since then or are they just passing through?

Thank you for updates. Good to see Golf Course Male is still holding out too. Great sightings you all have had with the cats in the last week.

To add to updates on Tsalala Pride: EP saw BB and two cubs yesterday and this morning her two daughters with 4 cubs. So, hopefully just the 2 dead and holding thumbs the others survive.

Hi Annlyn, you will not be able to expand the sighting at the moment as they are just reports on what animals were seen on daily game drives during the past week. The sightings and locations are up to give an indication of the movements of well known animals around the reserve, however hopefully in due course we will be able to provide you with information about each sighting. :-)

Hi, how do I expand the weekly sightings to read all about the sighting? For example I wish to read about the Sun 20 June entry regarding *Mapogo Male Lion ‘Satan’ Ximpalapala*.
Thanks
