“It is almost an insult to this place to only speak about three memorable sightings when the truth is that every week every ranger has a new story about something unforgettable they were able to witness or experience.”– James Souchon.
You said it. What I saw in only (3) nights at Londolozi in late May exceeded experiences I’ve had in the Okavango Delta, Masai Mara, and Serengeti. With Alfred and Chadrack, we were treated to a sighting of predators feeding on a carcass daily from the Mashaba female and cub feeding on an impala carcass in a tree, seeing the Tsalala pride on a buffalo carcass, and the mother of the two cubs you wrote about sharing a kudu kill with the two Matimba males. Sprinkled between these predator sightings were some wonderful encounters with elephants, rhino, a cheetah, and the rest of the usual suspects. I left wondering if we were just lucky or if this was par for the course at Londolozi and following your blogs it looks like its par for the course. I can only imagine what one sees working at Londolozi full time. I think I took 1,000 photos in one 24-hour period during my stay. I think I would wear out the button on my camera if I was a ranger. The best compliment I can pay is I’ve traveled to see wildlife from the penguins of Antarctica to the polar bears of Svalbard, from Brooks Falls in Alaska to Australia, East Africa to the Galapagos Islands, Yellowstone Natl’ Park to Komodo Island, on and on and on. The wildlife experience at Londolozi is as good as any of them and it might be the best.

Hi Phil, thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We truly are very privileged to be able to live here and experience the incredible wildlife every day. Hope to see you again!

In the description of the last picture should be “5 weeks old”, I suppose. (No need to publish this comment. Thanks.)

Hi abcxyz,
This is a picture of the older cubs, that are now 5 months old.

Hi James.

Well, I’ve thought that at 5 months old they look much bigger than that.
