My next Londolozi drive, i will make the request to see blacksmith lapwings! Thank you for your story, Kevin. It had all the elements- drama, suspense, danger, bravery, action, even as you said , warfare!!

Very interesting Kevin, and great pictures of such a beautiful bride! It sounds like a very stressful time for them. How long before the eggs hatch and the chicks can fly out of harms way?

Hi Jill, thanks for the comment. The eggs usually take 26 – 33 days to hatch, thereafter the chicks will be with the parents for a further 40 days on average.
