It’s been three years since my visit to Sabi Sands. I love reading the Londolozi journals. They’re so well written, they make me feel like I’m there. Kudos to Mike Johnson. His photographic skills are outstanding and I enjoyed every picture he took. Thank you for sharing.

How’d you get the super low angle shots? Just lucky terrain or using some special gear?

I actually mounted my camera upside down, with a gimbal, on a monopod and with Sean’s permission hung it outside the vehicle and let it sit on the ground using a remote shutter release.

These are wonderful shots and I would love to know how the chiraschuro shots were achieved (the half shadow/half light of cats/elephant). Hope not with the “flash” as we were always told not to use it as it blinds the animal for up to an hour making them vulnerable…..we loved our trip to Londolozi also.

Thank you…no flash used for those shots Shirlee, just a strong side light, sometimes natural other times from a second landi with rangers lamp.

Awesome gallery of images Mike, what a pleasure to view your photography. Really like the leopard images with the black background. Thanks for sharing.

Mike your photos are awesome, thank you for sharing! We were there end October with our wonderful guide Sean and tracker Rob and left ( reluctantly with a few tears) with such a greater appreciation of these wonderful animals, some of our own photos and memories to last forever. Wish we could have stayed forever!
