Lovely blog. Love our indigenous trees. My most favourite is the fever tree (Acacia xanthophloea).

All are beautiful, but I think the Sycamore Fig and Leadwood Trees are most awesome (ok I’m cheating but I can’t pick one). Thanks for great photos and info!

Great blog Kate and they are all beautiful trees. I particularly like the Umbrella Thorn tree because it is so often beautifully photographed, silhouetted against an incredible South African sunset and reminds me of all the great days we had on safari at Londolozi. The Sycamore Fig is also one of my favourites though, very beautiful.

The Umbrella thorn tree is a beauty and so typical of the many parts of South Africa. Another beauty, that we don’t get at Londolozi, is the majestic baobab, that’s a tree with many tales!

Thanks Kate that is very interesting. Of these the Fig is a special one as there are/were lots of them on the Lower Sabie River until the floods of 2000. A magnificent one that I am not sure if you have there, is the Baobab. I love their size & grace 🙂

Thanks Wendy, we don’t have the baobab, but it is most definitely one of our most striking trees. I think we should do a part 2 and mention some of the other trees, there are so many that deserve to be on the list.

I love the cabbage trees..they look like something out of someones imagination. And you also will learn that if you see cabbage trees you will not see any elephants.. They love them so much they eat them til they are gone.

There’s something about a Marula Tree that I love 😉 Thanks Kate!

The fruit is delicious and so is the drink… Can’t get enough of Amarula. I can see why the animals enjoy eating the fruit so much!
