Baboons and Humans

January 29, 2010

I’ve come to the conclusion that baboons are prototype humans.

Driving the banks of the Sand River, temporarily sluggish in the January heat, we chanced across a troop of baboons that were emerging from the rocks and reeds of the middle island. They all waited patiently at a small pool that had a hint of crocodile in its murky depths and then in file made the small leap to safety and scrambled up the bank in front of the car. They reminded me of lunch break at school nearly twenty years ago… and I was momentarily disappointed not to see any familiar faces. To view the full post and video click on the heading.

High Tech to High Touch

January 27, 2010

The bush is the furthest place you would expect to find cutting edge technology and innovation, however over the past year Londolozi has been hugely active in creating an environment where high tech meets high touch. Firstly with the development of new safari offerings such as the Zero Emissions Vehicle and the Photographic Safari Experience, then in the creation of an online experience for our friends who cannot be with us here in person. The Difference between Elephants and Humans

January 26, 2010

Elephants do not have a choice about the impact of their existence. They destroy plants and trees for things that could be of benefit, trample water sources into muddy pools and create long winding trails that stamp out any form of growth. They do this so that they can function as elephants. They need to eat a large amounts to sustain their nutrition levels, they need to drink massive amounts in order to hydrate themselves and they need to wander so that they can continually find fertile new land on which to impact their change. How Mating Lions Can Help You Find Your Purpose

January 17, 2010

Lions mate throughout the year and quite frequently for that matter. There is however, something quite interesting about watching lions mate. It might be the juxtaposition of loving aggression or the apathetic exhibitionism but what I really think hits home is the enduring determination of the male to ensure that he will be the father of her cubs. These lions are doing exactly what they were put here to do…reproduce and ensure their genes are passed on through the generations. To view the full post and video click on the heading above.

How motherhood works

January 14, 2010

The bonds between this mother and her cubs are now stronger than ever. She humors them, nurtures them and pays each one its own special piece of attention. Her killer instinct seems hidden and dissolved when she looks at her young. That piercing stare is soft and those deadly paws are playful. She is without question acting in a way that only a mother can. Maternal, caring and reserving that hidden ferocity for those that will try to take it all away from her. Dung Beetles

January 3, 2010

It’s frantic in the penalty box when a corner is taken. As the ball spins and arcs into the press of bodies, pushing and shoving takes centre stage as everyone tries to get a head to the leather. When the ball is cleared the tedious tic-tac-toe begins again as the midfielders try and wrestle control over the sphere and take it forward.
